看美剧如何学英语

　　当然了，不是每一个句子、每一个知识点都要严格按照这四步进行，但总体思路是想通的，请灵活运用。下面，我们用这种方法来学习美剧中的“优雅”(摘自《狂恋美剧学口语》一书)：

　　第一步: Make(重现美剧情景)

　　Elaine is going through a job interview and one of the qualifications is grace.

　　Elaine正为一份工作接受面试。该职位的要求之一是，应试者必须具备优雅的风度。

　　Interviewer: Not many people have grace.

　　很多人不具备优雅的品性。

　　Elaine: Well, you know, grace is a tough one. I like to think I have a little grace. Not as much as Jackie O...

　　嗯，要做到优雅是挺不容易，但我想我还是有一点优雅的，当然比起Jackie O是差一些……

　　Interviewer: You can’t have a little grace. You either have grace or you don’t.

　　你不可能有一点儿优雅，你要么优雅，要么就不优雅。

　　Elaine: Okay, fine. I have no grace.

　　那好吧，我并不优雅。

　　Interviewer: And you can’t acquire grace.

　　优雅也不是可以后天学来的。

　　Elaine: Well, I have no intention of getting grace.

　　我也并不准备去学会优雅。

　　Interviewer: Grace isn’t something you can pick up at the market.

　　优雅也不是金钱所能换来的。

　　Elaine: Alright, alright, look, I don’t have grace, I don’t want grace, I don’t even say grace, okay?

　　好了，好了。听着，我不优雅，我也不想要什么优雅，我连饭前祷告也不做，好吧?这下你该满意了吧?

　　Interviewer: Thank you for coming in.

　　谢谢你来参加面试。

　　Elaine: Yeah, yeah, right.

　　是啊，那是!

　　第二步：Model(模仿地道发音)

　　grace常见的两个义项：

　　1. a short prayer of blessing or thanksgiving said before a meal, as in the phrase “say grace” 饭前感恩的短暂祷告

　　例 Homer’s grace before a meal (from The Simpsons): “Good drink... good meat... good God, let’s eat!”

　　这是The Simpsons剧中Homer的饭前祷告：“感谢酒……感谢肉……感谢上帝，吃吧!”

　　2. effortless beauty or charm 天生优雅，风度

　　第三步：Multiply(扩展语言知识)

　　1. Jackie O是美国前总统John Fitzgerald Kennedy的夫人。

　　2. grace可指优雅和饭前祷告，此处为双关语。

　　第四步：Mine(挖掘文化背景)

　　A typical grace sounds like this：

　　标准的饭前祷告应该是这样的：

　　Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts,

　　Which we are about to receive

　　From Thy Bounty through Christ, Our Lord,

　　Amen.
