1993年，Girl’s Tyme正式改名为天命真女(Destiny’s Child)。除了Beyonce以外，留下来的是凯莉·罗兰、拉塔薇亚·罗伯森和LeToya Luckette。参加唱片公司试镜后，被艾丽卡唱片签下。1995年，唱片公司停止了其专辑的制作，碧昂丝返回家乡，重新开始。
1997年年底，唱片公司Columbia Records在1997年年底送上合约。同年，天命真女录制了其首张单曲《Killing Time》。
