  What Motivates Consumuers to Purchanse?

One factor that can influence consumers is their mood state. Mood may be defined as a temporary and mild positive or negative feeling that is generalized and not tied to any circumstance. Moods should be distinguished from emotions which are usually more intense, related to specific circumstances, and often conscious.

In one sense, the effect of a consumer's mood can be thought of in much the same way as can our reactions to the behavior of our friends — when our friends are happy and "up", that tends to influence us positively, but when they are "down", that can have a negative impact on us.

Similarly, consumers operating under a given mood state tend to react to stimuli in a direction consistent with that mood state. Thus, for example, we should expect to see consumers in a positive mood state evaluate products in more of a favorable manner than they would when not in such a state. Moreover, mood states appear capable of enhancing a consumer's memory.

Moods appear to be readily influenced by marketing techniques. For example, the rhythm, pitch, and volume of musice has been shown to influence behavior such as the amount of time spent in supermarkets or intentions to purchase products. In addition, advertising can influence consumers' moods which, in turn, are capable of influencing consumers' reactions to products.

While prices are rising so fast, manypeople are worrying out ways to cut down their expenditures.

  Womenomics

The flood of women into the job marketboosted economic growth and changed U.S. society inmany ways. Many in-homejobs that used to be done primarily by women — ranging from familyshopping topreparing meals to doing voluntary work — still need to be done by someone.

Husbands and children now do some of thesejobs, a situation that has changed the targetmarket for many products. Or aworking woman may face a crushing "poverty of time" and lookfor helpelsewhere, creating opportunities for producers of frozen meals, child carecenters, drycleaners, financial services, and the like.

Although there is still a big wage gapbetween men and women, the income working womengenerate gives them newindependence and buying power. For example, women now purchanseabout half ofall cars. Not long ago, many cars dealers insulted women shoppers byignoringthem or suggesting that they come back with their husbands.

Now car companies have realized that womenare potential customers. It's interesting thatsome leading Japanese cardealers were the first to really pay attention to women customers. InJapan, fewer women have jobs or buy cars — the Japanese society is still very muchmale-oriented. Perhaps it was the extreme contrast with Japanese society thatprompted Americanfirms to pay more attention to women buyers.
