There has been a heated discussion about whether to keep the College English Test Band 4(6) in the universities. Some people argue that the test has become an obstacle to the teaching of English on campuses, while others maintain that the advantages of the test outweigh its disadvantages.
As far as the first group of people are concerned, they give the following arguments. For one thing, many students spend most of their time preparing for the test, therefore their focus is not on learning English better but on getting a high mark. For another, many teachers don’t concentrate on how to improve the students’ abilities. They only care how many of their students can pass the test.
However, there are many people who believe the test should stay. To begin with, the test is the most effective way to measure how well the students have learned English. What’s more, we can come up with some ways to lessen the negative effect.
As far as I am concerned, each side is right in a certain way. We have to keep the test so students will have better motivation to learn English. However, we can’t attach too much importance to the scores of the test. After all, it is just a test, isn’t it? (212 words)

Financial aid 经济救助 has been pouring in 大量涌进 from all over China, with the Chinese government pledging hundreds of millions of dollars. Substantial donations from other countries and humanitarian organisations have also been pledged 承诺，给予（援助）.
Although full casualty figures 伤亡数字 are not yet certain, it is clear that Monday’s earthquake is the worst to strike China since the Tangshan earthquake of 1976.

For most senior students in universities, the last academic year has nothing to do with academics. To the frustration of professors, few courses are attended by students. And dorms are almost vacant with few lodgers. This kind of phenomenon, which has been called “Senior Empty Nests”, is common among universities of China.
Where have those absent senior students gone? Some lucky dogs have gone to their new jobs while the majority are still striving to get a job or engaging in their internship outside of the campus. The severe employment pressure has pushed senior students into employment market earlier. The anxiety of getting a job before graduation disturbs the restless mind of every student, which leads to skipping school of most students.
In my view, with senior students leaving campus earlier, their time of education has been reduced, which puts them in a disadvantaged position in the employment market. Students should start job hunting after finishing the courses of the last academic year. At the same time, the universities should provide career education for senior students.

酸
我初学的时候，只听见老师用我听不懂的英语来问候我们，我一下就晕头转向了，但我只好跟着老师，看着书，认识一个单词算一个，再把一个一个句子读懂，因为如果不这样，就等于白白浪费了那高额的学费。听着老师一个个单词如流水般从嘴里涌出来：什么“三克油（thankyou）”，什么“哈罗（hello）”，什么“估的摸林（goodmorning）”……搞得我头昏脑涨，哭笑不得。这“酸溜溜”的感觉可真不好受呀！
甜
暑假我进出了音标班和单词班，打好了一定的基础，本来我还要学几个童话剧才能进入考级班，但是老师见我跟得快，应该可以赶上他们，所以我就“跳级”了。听到这个消息，我心里的那个甜呀，比喜出望外还喜出望外！
苦
可是好景不长，因为我的胆子较小，所以老师提问要我回答时，我紧张极了，答起来结结巴巴，眼睁睁让人看笑话，而且有几天身体不舒服，课也没听进去，还被老师“k”了一顿——训了一顿，后来老师知道实情了，就让我注意身体，快点好起来。落下的课都是妈妈帮我补的。这苦滋味简直比不放糖的咖啡还苦！
辣
经过和老师同学们长时间相处，我渐渐适应了这里的生活，回答干干脆脆，提问风风火火，举手积极，每次玩游戏都把脸蛋儿玩得通红，也受老师“宠爱”，整个一个“辣妹子”。
现在，经过许多挫折，我已懂得了许多的英语知识，学会了许多单词的运用，这可和我平时的努力脱不了干系呀。这可真应了一句话：“不经一番彻骨寒，怎得梅花扑鼻香。”

In these case/circumstances you have given love which is like a lamp in a dark place where light is most needed.
