Ladies and Gentle men. I am honored to deliver a speech here about the importance of working hard. Diligence is vital to our success in the society, as it sharpens the skill you needed to be success and it helps you to stand out in the crowd. When I was in grade 10, I did not work hard, because I thought school was easy and I didn't have to work hard to get a good grades. I thought I was quite a genius indeed. However, when I entered grade 11, things start getting more and more difficult, and I started to acquire the habit of hard-woking by doing my homework every night, and preview school materials before school starts. Quite surprisingly, not only did I pass those difficult course, but also got a decent mark. Therefore, hard woking is the way to discover what your potentials are and use them to your benefit. I would continue to work diligently and hopefully to achieve greatness in the future.

From my point of view,diligence is of great significance in one’s life and career.The story of Hua LuoGeng is a case in point.Hua luogeng is due to the diligence, to become a famous mathematician.Hua luogeng in jintan county, home is very poor in childhood, dropping out of school at home, very early to help his father miscellaneous shop for a living, but he never give up the pursuit of mathematics. At eight o 'clock every night, go home after good accounts, to study their favorite mathematics, often study late into the night. In this way, day after day, year after year's efforts, hua luogeng finally got a chance to, when in tsinghua university math department assistant, he is very cherish the hard-won learning opportunities, he like a duck to water, swam in the sea of mathematics every day, give yourself only five or six hours of sleep time, it is really hard to believe. Hua luogeng even developed after lights out, also can the habit of reading. He, of course, there is no specific function, is just a kind of logical thinking activity of the mind. Right now I just wonder in the future whether I could be somebody like Martin Luther King who fought for people’s freedom or somebody like Bill Gates who donated all his fortune to help poor people or I’ll be like most people to be a nobody who gets a ordinary job and forms a family, living peacefully the rest life. No matter what kind of above, the point is no matter who you are, no matter where you are, please always have a dream. And this dream will make you get power to get progress; this dream will show you the direction like the beacon to the ship on the sea in the night.
From ancient time to the recent years, we see too many famous successful people like Confucius in China and Dr. King, as mentioned above, in the United States. Confucius made great influence to Chinese culture by his Confucianism, and Dr. King push the progress to the liberty of the blacks in the America. They both made great contribution to their country, and how they made this? Part of the reason why, I think, is that they had dreams that care about the people in the world. And more important, in my opinion of view, they throw their entire lives to make their dreams come true. That means they always keep learning, learning from books and learning from living lives. And this is what we need to learn: have a dream in mind and keep pursuing on it.
Through this we see that a dream is something we can make it come true by our hard working, and this is what a dream is different from a reverie. See this means we need to take action, if we really have a good dream. We need study well in the school, we need focus on the direction of our dream, and we need to remind ourselves from time to time: don’t forget our dreams. Maybe when others are playing basketball, but you are at the desk to figure out the difficult math exercises; maybe when others are watching TV series, but you are still on the books which you need in your composition. All these will be worth when you get to the top of your dreaming mountain. As the saying says, “mountain’s high, but man makes the peak”. So finally just let wish good luck to those who always have a dream in mind and keeps steps on it.

In history, there have been many famous people of great achievements. You may claim that they are geniuses. But behind their successes, they have made great efforts in carrying out their tasks. Einstein said “Genius is one percent of inspiration and ninety-nine percent of perspiration.” He had been working hard for many years before he finally worked out his theory of relativity. Thomas Edison experienced countless failures before he finally invented the electric bulb. Wang Junxia was able to win the world championship of long distance race only because she had many years of hard training. Therefore, diligence is the key to success. Doubtless hard work promises fruitful result. Everyone is awarded the right to work hard in order to reach his goal. Apparently, diligence is necessary to success. Happiness is nearly always a reward for hard work.
On the other hand, idleness is believed to be the root of all evil. Anyone who habitually likes idling but desires everything is daydreaming. We should be aware that if we dream away our precious time, when we wake up, it may be too late for us to achieve anything. So, as college students, we should never stop working hard so that we will remain successful in the future competitions.
